Sunita Williams, NASA’s astronaut of Indian origin, is now directed to Earth after her crew was stranded at the International Space Station (ISS) for nine months due to unforeseen technical problems. Williams and his partner Astronaut Butch Wilmore will return through the Spacex Dragon spacecraft before March 19.
As Williams is about to return home, there is a curiosity about whether he will pay overtime for his stay extended in space. When cleaning the air on the matter, NASA’s astronaut Cady Coleman told Washingtonian, a monthly magazine, that there would be no additional compensation.

“Astronauts are paid like any federal employee on a business trip. They get their regular salary, without overtime, and NASA is responsible for transport, accommodation and food,” Coleman said in the interview.

Despite their extended stay, the only additional compensation that Williams and Wilmore can receive is a small daily stipend for taxes, as reported only $ 4 (RS 347) per day, according to Coleman.

“There is a small amount of money per day for incidents that end legally forced to pay him,” Coleman added.

For example, during its mission of 159 days in 2010-11, astronaut Cady Coleman received around $ 636 (more than RS 55,000) in additional salaries. Based on the same calculation, Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore could receive approximately $ 1,148 (around RS 1 Lakh) for their extended stay of 287 days in space.

NASA Astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore fall under the GS-15 salary rating, the highest level for federal employees under the general schedule system (GS).

While astronauts receive a small daily stipend for taxes, GS-15 government employees earn an annual basis that varies from $ 125,133 to $ 162,672 (approximately 1.08 million rupees at RS ₹ 1.41 million rupees), according to media reports.

On March 15, Spacex and NASA successfully launched a mission to recover astronauts Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams, who have been stranded aboard the International Space Station (ISS) for months. The launch took place at 7:03 am on Friday, with a Falcon 9 rocket with a dragons spacecraft as part of the CREW-10 mission.

Previously, Spacex’s Dragon spacecraft, which transported NASA’s astronauts, Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, Jaxa Takuya Onishi astronaut and Cosmonaut Roscosmos Kirill Peskov, successfully docked with the ISS, as announced by CEO Spacex Elon Musk on Sunday.
