Johannesburg – An operation of a multidisciplinary team consisting of the Gauteng Traffic Police has resulted in more than 400 arrests in several cities throughout the province.

Police in Gauteg warn the public that they do not commit acts of illegality after high density operations, including Operation Shanela, which took place during the weekend.

The suspects were arrested for several crimes, including common assault, drug possession, sale of liquor without a license, undocumented people and possession of stolen goods.

Selo Maremane spokesman said that in the city of Ekurhuleni, more than 167 suspects were arrested. In general, 44 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs and 46 suspects for drinking and driving. Thirty -three undocumented people have been arrested for contravening the immigration law. “

He added that more arrests were made in the city of Joburg.

“The city of Johannesburg saw arrests made by cases that include possession of drugs, possession of stolen vehicles, undocumented people and drunk driving. In general, 575 people and 9 vehicles were recorded throughout the city.”
