A teenage child was fatally stabbed, while another was seriously injured in Chelsea on Saturday night, authorities said.

Chelsea police said they responded to Eastern Avenue, near Stockton Street, around 8:26 pm, where the police found the two minors. The altercation supposedly involved a weapon and knives, said Chelsea police on Saturday night.

A 17 -year -old boy was transported to a local hospital, where he died. A 15 -year -old boy was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with serious but not threatening injuries, police said.

“Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and the entire Chelsea community while we work diligently to take those responsible to justice,” said Chelsea police chief Keith Houghton, in a statement.

The 17 -year -old was identified as Juan Carlos Lemus. He attended Chelsea High School, confirmed the district. Superintendent Almi Abeyta said that resources and social workers will be available to students at school on Monday.

“We want to remind everyone that our advice services are available to provide help to anyone who needs it, and we encourage those who seek support to arrive,” Abeyta said in a statement. “Juan Carlos’s loss has affected us all, and our thoughts and prayers remain with their loved ones.”

The incident is being investigated by the Chelsea Police detectives and the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Suffolk County District Office of Suffolk Kevin Hayden. In a statement on Sunday morning, the prosecution said that an investigation is underway, and there have been no arrests.

“Violence as this shocks and saddens our immediate neighborhoods and our entire society, as should, especially when the victims are so young,” said Hayden. “We move better when we have help from the community and hope that anyone with information about this tragic incident will contact us.”
