VTA asks Newsom to intervene in the traffic strike

The Transportation Authority of the Valley of the Santa Clara Valley, or VTA, said on Saturday that it has asked Governor Gavin Newsom to order traffic employees who return to work thousands of South Bay riders while resolving a new contract.

THe also revealed that he presented on March 10 for a court order of the Superior Court to “stop the irreparable damage to the community.” The workers left work a week ago.

The Traffic Authority argues that the union that represents more than 1,500 workers of VTA violated a “no strike” clause in its contract, which expired a week ago. Union leaders left a mediation session with VTA on Friday.

The president of the union could not be contacted to comment on Saturday afternoon. There was no immediate response to the messages that were left with the governor’s press office.

In his appeal to the governor, VTA asks Newsom to designate a research board, which examines public transport work disputes. It would have the effect of stopping the strike pending the result of the investigation.

The two parties began negotiations in August 2024 to renew the three -year contract of the union.
