Huawei lobbyists prohibited EU Parliament after the accusations of bribery

The European Parliament prohibited Friday that the lobbyists who work for Huawei enter their facilities after the arrests of several people in a corruption investigation linked to the Chinese company.

Huawei is suspicious of Belgian prosecutors to bribe EU legislators.

The European Parliament said Friday that the decision to suspend the access of the Huawei lobbyists has been taken as a precautionary measure, in line with its security rules.

Thursday’s arrests occurred as an investigation by the newspaper Le Soir and other media revealed that the lobbyists who worked for the Chinese telecommunications giant were suspected to bribe the current or former members of the European Parliament to promote the company’s commercial policies in Europe.

Around 100 Federal Police officers held 21 searches in Brussels, Flanders and Wallonia regions, and Portugal. The investigating magistrate in charge of the case also requested that the seals are placed in offices within the EU parliament assigned to two parliamentary assistants who allegedly involved.
