One of the largest restaurant chains in China has promised to reimburse thousands of customers after a video of a client urinating in a hotpot over low heat became viral online, which caused a public protest. The clip, recorded last month, seems to show a young stand on a table in a branch of the Haidilao restaurant chain in Shanghai urinate in a boiling tub.

The video caused an immediate reaction on social networks, with users generating anger and disgust due to the blatant violation of food security in one of the most popular restaurant chains in the country.

Haidilao confirmed the incident in a social media post on Wednesday, saying that it was “extremely unfortunate” and added that he was looking for legal actions against the offender.

“In the early hours of February 24, two men urinated in a periodic after dinner in a private room at a Haidilao branch in the Bund in Shanghai,” said the company, referring to the rhythm seap walk of the Eastern Megacacity.
