The air trip is more accessible than ever, with New flight routes to the attractive destinations that arise all the time.

In recent months, London Stansted has launched Eight new trips to the tastes of Bergen and Rotterdam, British airways presented Three new Italian routes and Ryanair, Wisdom, Jet and Easyjet All have added new destinations to their list.

But not everyone feels inspired to take advantage of these new travel opportunities.

Some Metro Readers have shared their concern about stepping on a plane aboard a plane, with Peter Ekenasio writing: “Until they solve the aircraft crisis, they are cruises for me.”

Zeeshan Meer Khan Khel added: ‘People are afraid to travel on an plane. Accidents have become normal today.

Actually, aviation incidents such as plane crashes I have not become ‘normal’. Data from International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), an UN agency dedicated to guaranteeing safe international air trips, shows that global aviation accidents have been decreasing in recent years. But there is a reason why some travelers feel restless.

There have been two high profile incidents less than three weeks apart this year. In January, 67 people died later A helicopter of the United States Army Chocó With an American Airlines plane in Washington DC. In February, A inclined Delta flight On the track in Canada‘S Toronto Pearson Airport. No one died in the incident, which is being investigated.

The proximity of the events left many asking If plane accidents are becoming more common and feel more anxious to fly.

MetroThe travel expert himself Alice Murphy shared his flight experience anxietyand was overwhelmed by the number of people who could relate.

A user shared: ‘I just developed flight anxiety a couple of years ago (a random panic attack on a flight made each after it so hard). I was in ruins for weeks, if not months before the flight, as, postponed to reserve it because I was very scared.

Another said: “I would send farewell messages from airplanes,” while a user added: “It’s pure luck if I will be in pieces with anxiety or that is great.”

According to NHS, the fear of flying or aerophobia affects one in ten people.

The reality of air travel safety

Although a close chain of aviation incidents is stressful for travelers, it is not indicative of a decrease in aircraft safety.

The latest OCO report places the accident rate by 1.87 per million exits in 2023 (compared to 2.94 in 2019), while the number of deaths in air accidents worldwide has decreased from 239 in 2019 to 72 in 2023.

Dr. Akhil Bardwaj, former engineer and professor at the University of Bath, said Metro: “While the series of recent accidents may seem alarming, we would do well to remember that they were not connected to each other in a way that indicates serious systemic problems, and that commercial air trips remain safe.

“We are more likely to be involved in a fatal accident on the road to the airport than our plane falling out of heaven.”

Tips for managing anxiety for flight

Metro Readers have shared their own Tips to handle anxiety when flying.

Kirk Parsons said: ‘I reserve a window seat, so my neighbors do not bother me who need to go to the bathroom or buy things. Then I only read my book and blank everything else.

Julie Ann shared her distraction technique, writing: “I am afraid to fly, but what I found that it helped me was to classify my phone while I was in the air, how to delete duplicate and unwanted photos, classify photos and videos on albums.”

And Jane Clark Cadman added: “I am terrified to fly, but I love vacations and I don’t want to be that person who will not go anywhere.” It is known that I have my jacket on my head for a four -hour flight!

Many travelers revealed that they use alcohol as a coping mechanism for anxiety when flying.

Sharing his airport routine, Amanda Tsim wrote: ‘He arrives early so that he does not hurry. Reserve the seat in which you feel comfortable, mine is a seat in the hall of the row where I feel less caught. Then have some wines. I do not say it is ideal, but it takes me to a plane.

However, having a drink is not always the best approach to calm the nerves.

Metro talk with BACP Registered Therapist and Founder of Therapy in London Philip KarahassanWho explained that drinking alcohol can lead to a more clear increase in anxiety during the recovery period.

‘Many like to use sedatives to suffocate any anxiety during a flight, but this does not conquer long -term anxiety. Simply numb it for the moment, allowing him to return as much as before.

Instead, Philip shared some techniques that nerve flyers can use to relieve their anxiety:

  • The preparation is key: Racer running and lack of preparation can snowball in the existing anxiety to fly. Be sure to order your documents, verify your luggage assignments and plan your trip to the airport in advance, the more you prepare, the less space you will have for anxiety to drag.
  • Seek support: Talk to the people around you and do not be afraid to ask for support from the people you fly with. The more you talk about your anxiety, the less threatening it will be.
  • Distracted: Be sure to have something to look at or listen before and during the flight, to get distracted from anxiety.
