Two arrests made after shooting in Surprise that left teen seriously injured

SURPRISE, AZ (AZ Family) – Two arrests have been made after a shooting left a teenager seriously injured in Surprise earlier this week.

Authorities say Osvaldo Javier Rojas, 21, and Kevin Schwahn, 19, have been arrested on felony charges.

Surprise police say the shooting occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Monday near 140th Avenue and Greenway Road, where officers discovered shell casings in the street.

Officers later learned that a 16-year-old boy was shot and seriously injured after two groups met to exchange weapons. However, it is unclear what specifically led to the shooting.

At the moment, the child remains in serious condition, but is expected to survive.

According to Surprise PD, detectives eventually linked Rojas to the crime. He has been jailed on recommended charges including armed robbery, aggravated assault and unlawful discharge of a firearm within city limits.

Meanwhile, Schwahn faces a felony charge related to hindering prosecution.

As the investigation continues, Surprise PD asks anyone with information to call the department at 623-222-4000 or email [email protected].
