The former Manchester United player Brandon Williams declares himself guilty of dangerous driving

The former Manchester United footballer, Brandon Williams, declared himself guilty of driving dangerously after being caught doing almost 100 mph.

Williams, 24, was seen leading at high speeds and erratically in an Audi A3 in the A34 near Handforth, Cheshire, on August 20, 2023, according to the Crown Prosecutor’s Office (CPS).

He declared himself guilty at Chester Crown Court on Friday to drive and drive dangerous without third -party insurance, the CPS said.

Williams, who was hired to Manchester United at that time, but was lent to the city of Ipswich during the 2023-24 season, was with a passenger and drove up to 99 mph in an area of 70 mph, with a balloon in his mouth.

The CPS said that the woman was seen filming them at a time on her phone, and added that it was clear to the witnesses that the car was out of control.

The car hit a blue Ford Fiesta around 6.17 pm before colliding against the central reserve.

There was extensive damage to Williams, the damage to the offside in the Ford party with a missing wheel, as well as damage to the central reserve.

The CPS said the witnesses called the Police and Williams withdrew, but the test was negative.

The former Premier League soccer player was taken to the hospital to receive their wounds and then taken to the Middlewich custody suite.

The CPS said Williams admitted that he was the Audi driver in a prepared statement, but denied that he was out of control and attributed the collision to the actions of another driver who forced him to deviate to the central reserve.

They asked him about the witnesses who saw him with a balloon in his mouth, but he replied: “No comment,” the CPS said.

Williams was arrested and accused of driving and driving dangerous without third -party insurance.

He will be sentenced on May 9 at Chester Crown Court.

Andrew Madden, a senior crown prosecutor with CPS Mersey-Cheshire, said: “Brandon Williams’s driving that day clearly fell well below what would be expected from a competent and careful driver.

“Expert analysis showed that it was leading 99 MPH four seconds before hitting the Ford Fiesta.

“The witnesses said Williams continued to accelerate and then breaking sharply. It was clear that I didn’t have control of the vehicle.

“The driving was erratic and the speed was very excessive. Finally, Williams lost control completely and crashed.

“It is lucky that no one was seriously injured or killed. Driving 99 mph in these circumstances was extremely dangerous and placed the lives of other road users with a serious risk of damage.

“The Crown Prosecutor’s Office wants to thank the witnesses for supporting this prosecution.”

In June last year, Manchester United announced that Williams would leave the club at the end of his contract.

The club said Williams “has been with the Reds since the age of nine” and “managed to climb from rank.”

In an Instagram post, Williams wrote “once a red a red.”
