The sources say that the possible ties between the mass shooting and Fairfield and the rumors and the fear of the shootings in retaliation were, in part, the reason for the postponement of the activities of return to the house of the schools of the city of Fairfield and the activities of the week of the students of Fairfield.

In addition, Miles College amounted to the initial time for his welcome game on October 5 and postponed his parade.

Thurmond thanked several agencies that are helping in the investigation, including the Sheriff’s Office of the Jefferson County, ATF, DEA, the Office of the Sheriff of the County of Jefferson, the Office of the District Prosecutor of the County of Jefferson, the United States Prosecutor’s Office, the United States Secret Service and the US Sheriff Service.

The boss said researchers have worked day and night from the murders more than three weeks ago.

“We have six people who lose their lives without mentioning 17 people who were injured in the mass shooting in 5 points in the southern entertainment district,” Thurmond said, adding that the impact and magnitude is “tremendous for our city, our community, our business owners, the application of the law, the amount of hours carried out in this research is astronomical.”

Thurmond said more than 300 tips were presented through Crime Stoppers or the QR code of the department.

“We have never had so many tips in any case before,” he said.

The police began notifying the victims on Tuesday and Wednesday of the arrests.

“That is one of the best things that a detective can do in his career that is to tell a family that he has been able to obtain some kind of justice or closure for his loved one who was injured or killed,” said Thurmond. “It makes everything worth it.”

‘I saw my brother breathe’

On Saturday it will mark a month since the police say that multiple gunmen unleashed more than 100 rounds, including automatic shots, in a long line of people who expect to come into silence in Magnolia Avenue.

The shots exploded just after 11 in the afternoon that Saturday, killing Carlos McCain, 27, Roderick Lynn Patterson Jr., 26 years old, 26 years old, Anitra Holloman, 21, and Tahj Booker, 27. Seventeen years, which is believed to be innocent passers -by, suffered injuries ranging from superficial to criticism.

Police quickly said that the flood of shots was a “blow”, a murder for rent aimed at least one of the men killed in the shooting.

Two of the victims, Carlos De’juan McCain, 27, and Roderick Lynn Patterson Jr., 26, were accused of Birmingham’s homicides.

McCain was acquitted of murder and attempted murder in 2017 for the death of Kelvon Julius, 15, who, according to the police, was killed in retaliation for another shooting in 2015. A young woman was also injured in the shots that killed Kelvon.

Kelvon’s murder occurred on June 4, 2016 at 12th Street South. A second suspect declared himself guilty and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Patterson was previously accused of murder in the 2021 shooting of Dentarius Maurice Jackson, 20, who was shot dead in the gas bombs in the Chevron in First Adest. North.

In 2022, the position of murder against Patterson was dismissed at the request of prosecutors, citing “death, lack of availability and non -witness of witnesses.”

“There could be multiple reasons for the individual who believe he was attacked. Others could have been attacked,” said Thurmond before. “We are still investigating that.”

“Some of the murdered people have extensive criminal stories and, therefore, there is often motivation of others, and there are people willing to pay to kill,” said the boss.

The judicial records do not show criminal records for the other two murdered people: Anitra Hollomon, 21, and Tahj Booker, 27.

Some, if not all, of the victims left that Saturday night celebrating the events of former students of Jackson-Olin High School, which included a picnic that day.

McCain, who graduated from Jackson-Olin High School in 2015, was known by his friends as “Los” and “Lil Carlos”.

“Carlos was a vibrant child who was full of energy. Carlos loved to dress from head to toe and go to the scene to shine like the weird diamond he was,” according to his obituary. “

“He was a brave and strong warrior,” said the obituary. “Carlos was in a good heart and had the best sense of humor. He was known by many as a gentle giant with a beautiful soul.”

The McCain funeral was held on September 28, a week until the day after the mass shooting.

Patterson’s funeral was held in Fairfield on October 1. He grew up playing youth athletics, baseball and football, in the western area.

Both Booker and Holloman had separated funerals on Saturday, October 5.

Booker, family members say, protected Hollomon when the shots sounded.

“Knowing that my brother is to love him,” his brother, Jerome Booker, posted on Facebook the day after the shooting. “Everyone who knows that Tahj always knew that he will protect anyone around him.”

“After the shots stopped, all I heard was that my brother called my name asking if I’m fine,” he wrote. “All the time he got the girl Rere (Holloman) in her arms on her as if she protected her because I know how she is in that situation.”

“Then he said: ‘They shot me’, so I grabbed her and I saw my brother breathe,” he wrote.

Holloman was a single mother whose lifelong boyfriend was shot dead two years ago when she was pregnant with her daughter. He was studying university to become a teacher and worked as a tax trainer for her family’s business.

She and her daughter lived with Holloman’s mother, Candance Kemp.

“My baby was shot four times,” Kemp said previously Al.com. “She had no chance.”

“They really broke my heart,” Kemp said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
