The Muslim community asks for an impartial investigation, urges CM Fadnavis to intervene

Nagpur, March 20 (PTI): The members of the Muslim community in Nagpur condemned violence in the largest city of Vidarbha earlier this week and sought an impartial investigation.

Directing a press conference, they said that Maharashtra’s prime minister, Devendra Fadnavis, should meet with representatives of both communities in an attempt to establish peace.

On Monday night it was reported that large -scale stone fights were reported in several parts of NAGPUR after rumors began to circulate on a ‘chadar’ with sacred inscriptions burned during the protests directed by the Parishad Hindu Vishwa (VHP) that seeks the elimination of the aungeb tomb.

“The efforts are provoking the Muslim community through several media in the last two or three years. A minister has continually being raised the issue of Aurengzeb. The Muslim community has no connection with Aurengzeb and has remained calm,” said Dr. Mohammad Awes Hasan at the press conference.

He claimed that the right -wing attire burned a ‘chadar’ with Islamic verses about them, which caused a “spontaneous reaction” of a Muslims section.

While they appreciated police efforts, some of those who spoke at the press conference alleged that some innocent people had been arrested as part of violence investigation.

Meanwhile, the head of the Minority Commission of the State of Maharashtra, Pyare Khan, held a meeting on Thursday, attended by the police commissioner and the district collector, among others.

Measures against innocent people should not be taken, he urged the police.

He also asked the administration to relax the curfew in Mominpura and the nearby towns, since Ramzan is underway and the businesses were being affected.

Thirty -three police personnel members, including three DCP rank officers, were injured in Monday’s violence.

Police have reserved Fahim Khan, a key accused in violence, and another five for sedition and dissemination positions on social networks, according to the police. The curfew was lifted or relaxed in parts of the city three days after violence.
