“The CM Siddaramaiah had approved a bill opposing the amendment made by the central government to Waqf. The reason is clear: when Modi Ji is interested in bringing transparency to Waqf, the government of Siddaramaiah wants to protect the monopolors of land,” said Vijayendra.

Accusing Congress leaders of participating in a supposed monitoring of land, he said that the BJP will expose such “scams” to people.

“The leaders of the Congress are involved in this landstead scam. BJP will expose the Government of Congress to the people of Karnataka,” said the BJP leader.

Further criticizing the decision to give a 4 percent reservation to minorities, as “appeasement policy,” he said that the party would protest in the streets against both issues.

“Bringing a 4% reserve for Muslims in contracts is very unfortunate. Don’t you see other people in the Hindu community? Why this appeasement policy?

Previously, on March 19, the opposition leader of Karnataka, R Ashok, had expressed strong objections to the resolution, claiming that the state government was supporting Muslims to obtain votes.

“We discuss Waqf’s problems for two days because all our temples and farmers have been acquired by the WAQF Board. Many government schools, which have existed during the last 60-70 years, have also been declared as WAQF properties. The Karnataka government is supporting Muslims due to voting,” Ashok said.

The resolution was presented by the State Law Minister HK Patil.

The WAQF (amendment) bill has been a topic of debate, since it aims to amend the provisions related to WAQF Property Administration. The 1995 WAQF Law, promulgated to regulate WAQF properties, has been criticized for a long time for issues such as poor management, corruption and invasions.

The WAQF bill (amendment), 2024, seeks to address these challenges through the introduction of reforms such as digitalization, improved audits, improved transparency and legal mechanisms to claim illegally occupied properties.
