“Honestly, I don’t know. I have never been a teammate with Lewis, so I don’t know what he is able to do. I’ve never seen his data,” Sainz told the media.

“I have seen Charles and I know how well Charles, but I have never been a teammate with Lewis. And the only way you can evaluate more or less a driver is when you are his teammate and see what they are able to do.”

Sainz said he firmly felt that Ferrari was in a position to challenge Bull Red and McLaren when he left and believes that they have strengthened with Hamilton on board.

“When I judge by the results and their background and what he has achieved, I can only say that there is a great possibility that it is obviously competitive in Ferrari,” he said.

“But as everything, everything will depend on how well you can adapt to a car, how well you can adapt to a team and at what time your teammate is,” the Spanish continued.

“So many variables that it is impossible for me to predict. But I can only say that when I left Ferrari, I felt that the team, both Ferrari and Charles, were ready to fight for a world championship. And with Lewis joined, that possibility only increased.”
