Bay area prosecutors reach a $ 1.3 million agreement with the telecommunications provider for environmental violations

Redwood City – The prosecutors of the Bay area announced on Tuesday an agreement of almost $ 1.3 million with the wavedivision holdings LLC wavedivision and internet provider on environmental violations.

The company, which operates as a broadband of Astound in California, was investigated for the control of toxic substances in California and the offices of the District Prosecutor against Costa, San Mateo, San Francisco, Pleasure, San Luis Obispo and the County of Yolo.

Prosecutors said inspections at the Wavedivision Holdings facilities revealed that the company was sending hazardous waste, including electronic products, silicone gels and batteries, municipal landfills instead of authorized hazardous waste removal sites. The provisions violated several state laws on environmental and unfair competence.

Wavedivsion Holdings also did not comply with regulations related to hazardous materials, including the presentation of business plans for hazardous materials and guarantee adequate training for employees for the management of hazardous materials, according to prosecutors.

“The San Mateo County District Prosecutor takes the environmental violations seriously and strives to hold the parties responsible for such violations responsible,” said San Mateo County Prosecutor Stephen Wagstafffe, in a statement. “We are grateful for the collaboration efforts of the offices of the other district prosecutors, as well as for environmental health researchers and partners, who contributed to this result.”

The district prosecutor of the County Costa, Diane Becton, said that the telecommunications provider “cooperated with the investigation and has since implemented training programs to adequately administer and eliminate hazardous waste, ensuring future fulfillment.”

According to the liquidation agreement, Wavedivision Holdings will pay $ 875,000 in civil fines, $ 300,000 for compliance costs and $ 100,000 for complementary environmental projects.
