2 sentenced for the stabbing of his inmate partner in the center of the Federal Prison of San Diego

San Diego (CNS) – Two men who participated in a stabbing that seriously wounded a fellow inmate in the federal prison in Center of San Diego were sentenced Monday to prison.

Jonathan Barba, 32, of Victorville, and Abraham Gómez-Rodríguez, 26, of Imperial Beach, were sentenced to 51 months and 37 months in prison, respectively, for the attack last March 27 at the Metropolitan Correctional Center.

Prosecutors said men told the victim that the attack was committed at the request of “Alex”, whom they described as a “person who called” for the Mexican mafia.

The United States prosecutor’s office said Barba stabbed the victim several times behind with a metal rod. During the stabbing, Gómez-Rodríguez held the victim holding their weapons, prosecutors said.

The victim was stabbed in the abdomen, neck, head and “dangerously close” of one of his eyes, according to the office of the United States prosecutor.

At the time of stabbing, Barba was fulfilling a sentence of 37 months for the importation of methamphetamine and fentanyl, while Gómez-Rodríguez was fulfilling a term of 26 months by possession with the intention of distributing methamphetamine and hero. The sentences transmitted on Monday will be executed consecutively to their current prison terms.
