Messi is injured while Argentina seeks to seal the world cup place

Montevideo – Lionel Messi will lose the World Cup qualifiers in Argentina this month after suffering a tension in the groin in the victory of Inter Miami over Atlanta over the weekend, he confirmed his club on Monday.

Messi was out of Argentina’s team for the clash of world champions against Uruguay on Friday, which is followed by a confrontation with Brazil on March 25.

Inter Miami said in a statement that a scan had revealed Messi suffered a “low-degree injury in the adductor muscle” in the 2-1 victory on Sunday. The statement did not give a schedule for the return of Messi.

“Its clinical progress and response to treatment will determine its availability for competition,” said Inter.

After missing three games for Inter at the beginning of this month, the 37 -year -old returned with a goal from the bank in a victory of the Concacaf Champions Cup.

Argentina, the World Cup defender champion, can guarantee the qualification for next year’s tournament in his next two games.

They lead the South American classification group of 10 teams per five points ahead of the game with Uruguay in Montevideo.

The six best teams are classified directly for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The seventh place is currently Bolivia with 13 points.

After 12 rounds, Messi is the top scorer in the competition with six goals.

Argentina also has no injuries, the Romaní striker Paulo Dybala and the side of River Plate Paulo Montiel.

Brazil will be without Neymar, 33, who has suffered a thigh injury and has had to postpone his return to the national team, which is fifth, seven points behind Argentina.
