The captain of Uruguay, Diego Godin, was seen intervening and trying to calm things, but according to the reports, the argument continued in the tunnel halfway while both players exchanged insults.

The game would end 2-2 after Messi scored a penalty in the detention time.

Speaking later, the former United Cavani striker said: “It’s part of football, the classics are like that.
