Family of Kaduna Student Demands ₦ 560m Compensation

Almost a month after the brutal murder of Ahmed Musa, a student of the Technical Government College Malali in Kaduna, his family has announced plans for a massive protest throughout the state against the Kaduna state government.

The family also demands justice, a formal apology and financial compensation, so they describe as the failure of the State to protect the adolescent.

In a statement issued on Monday, the father of Ahmed, Comrade Musa Mohammed, along with other family members, condemned the murder, qualifying it as a tragic reflection of the growing insecurity in Nigeria.

They insisted on a transparent and accelerated legal process, promising to resist any form of political interference.

“The time has come for the Government of the State of Kaduna and for all those who represent justice to respond to the cry of the family for responsibility,” reads the statement.

“If young people can be killed in such horrible circumstances, what hope is for Nigeria’s future?”

As part of its demands, the family has requested a formal recognition of the state government that students are no longer safe within their communities.

They also seek compensation of ₦ 560.3 million, so they describe as serious negligence on the part of the authorities.

The father had previously presented a petition on February 24, 2025 to the Governor of the State of Kaduna through the Education Commissioner, urging a complete investigation into the death of his son.

He insisted that all those responsible must face justice.

Meanwhile, legal procedures against the personnel of the Kaduna State Surveillance Service (Kadvis), accused of criminal conspiracy and negligence that lead to Ahmed’s death, have faced delays.

The Chief Magistrate Court of Kabala Doki postponed the case as of April 17, 2025, due to the absence of key witnesses and the prosecutor.

The family warned that if their demands are not met, they will mobilize a protest throughout the State, emphasizing that their fight is not only for their child but for the fundamental right to life that all Nigerian students deserve.
