Greeting prominent artists with the athlete of Bay City’s week for March 17

Bay City, Mi – Every week, through the 2025 high school winter season, we highlight basketball, wrestling, swimming, hockey, bowling and gymnastics with our Mlive Bay City Athlete of the Week project.

Carson Anthes

Anthes made his presence feel for the Cass City male basketball team. The Senior gave the Red Hawks a great body in the painting, and his athletics created some problematic confrontations for opposite defenses. “He was a monster in the district work,” said coach Steve Muska. “It was a defensive and bounced force to go with its offensive production.” Anthes closed his hoof career playing some of his best ball. He delivered a double double of 11 points and 12 rebounds against the US. And scored 15 points and seven tables against Harbor Beach.

Noah Felan, Bay City Western

Every time things became chaotic, Bay City Western Boys’ basketball team had a relaxing influence on Felan. The Senior gave the Warriors an intoxicating shipowner who kept everyone in the task under pressure. “Noah was the engine that directed our team,” said coach Will Williams. “We could count on him to control our offensive and, in defense, we ask him to defend the best player of the other team. Outside the court, he is a model child. He is one of the most respectful children that I have had the pleasure of being close. “Felan was good for 5.5 points per game, while gaining the honorary mention of the acclamation of the Saginaw Valley League.

Matthew Lechner, Gladwin

The Big Fella played a big but sometimes overlooked role for the Boys Gladwin basketball team. Lechner was hard with the glass and had no qualms about a physical defense brand. “Matthew was a bit unknown to us this year,” said coach Mike Verellen. “He didn’t score a ton, but he did all the little things well. He was an outstanding defender, he was our main rebounder and is really fast for a true post player. ” The Senior Captain finished the strong regular season, registering 17 points in his career against Farwell and then returning with a double double against soul.

Jensyn Machala, Statiz-Sterling

The Standish-Esterling female basketball team has a pure shooter in Machala. But she does much more than that. He showed his versatile skills during the district’s action with 28 points, 13 rebounds, six robberies and four assists in two games. “In the Week of Districts, Jensyn was clutch for us,” said coach Denny Wendel. “She is always spending extra time and is a great teammate.” She helped awaken the Panthers in a strong end to the regular season, highlighted by a double double of 15 points and 10 rebounds against Harrison.

Blake Mallak

A four -year element in the Oscoda Boys basketball team, Mallak was a tone marker for the OWLS with their defensive skill. “Blake is one of the best defenders I’ve trained,” said coach Mike Poland. “We ask him to defend the best player of all and on many nights, he was smaller in 5-9, but always assumed the challenge.” The Senior also led the team in 10.0 points per game while scoring 4.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.4 robberies per game.

John Glenn Boys’ basketball team needed a big man to take a great step forward, and Ruff responded to the call sensationally. The senior of 6 feet and 5 inches delivered a year of rupture, helping the bobcats to 20 wins and a league title. “Bring a great energy and jump capacity,” said coach Dale Clyde. “It is strong and athletic and is joining and is recovering daily. He is a very funny child and had a great season. “Ruff averaged 9.3 points and 6.0 rebounds and delivered 23 points in the season against Alma.

Henry Shanbeck

No one in the area enjoyed a larger swimming season than Shanbeck’s delivery for John Glenn. The Junior emerged as one of Michigan’s elite sprinters, winning there with an eighth place in the 50 Freestyle and placing 14º in the 100 Freestyle in the Championship of Division 3. “He continually strives to make an additional effort in everything he does. His dedication, hard work and positive attitude throughout the season have helped him achieve his goals. “Shanbeck reached the state qualification brand at five events and was appointed swimmer of the match in the ISC championship.

Lincoln Stoike

Stike may not be the largest center in the League, but became a powerful post presence for the Beaverton Boys basketball team. The Senior is a hard -nose player who knows how to use his body and is not afraid to hit. “Lincoln was a little size center that used positioning and hardness to be one of our main rebounds,” said coach Shadruff. “He is a great teammate and was happy to do the little things that do not appear in the statistics line but still helped us win games.” He had a great year of the last year and will be difficult to replace next year. ” Stoike’s work on the boards and the timely score were fundamental factors in the Final Beaverton.

Ian Weldon

Ian Weldon, Reese

When Reese’s basketball team needed a shake, he could unleash his ray from the bank in Weldon. “It is one of the best sixth men in the area,” said coach Justin Shepherd. “It was the second leader in the team, directing a strong bank for us.” Weldon often provided a spark, particularly with his offensive skill. An aggressive and intelligent player closed the regular season with an 18 -point memorable performance against Cass City.
