The protests explode after man dies during the violent clash in Ranchi, 15 arrested

Ranchi:

The tension seized the Ranchi area of the Namkum police station on Sunday after a man injured in a violent clash between two groups succumbed to his wounds during treatment.

The man, identified as Monu Munda, was among those who have seriously injured in the clash that happened on Holi’s day.

On Sunday, anger and pain spilled in the streets when hundreds of people from Jora Basti took the Ranchi-Purulia road with the body of Sonu Munda. The protesters blocked the busy road near Jora Basti, which led to a mass jam with long tails of stranded vehicles.

The conflict began on Friday when a dispute broke out between the locals of Jora Basti and the people who operate cattle sheds (Jatales) near the Namkum train station. What began as a minor disagreement became an important fight later that day.

Tensions exploded on Saturday during Holi’s celebrations, which led to a violent confrontation between the two groups. According to the reports, both parties used sticks and swords, which resulted in serious injuries to three people and injuries less than another 15.

Among the serious injured was Monu Munda, a resident of Jora Basti, who succumbed to his wounds while receiving treatment on Sunday. Several other injured in the clash remain hospitalized.

After Monu Munda’s body was delivered to his family members after postmortem, Jora Basti residents organized a protest march. Carrying the body, the protesters blocked the main route, demanding justice and action against those responsible for violence.

Police took quick measures and arrested 15 people allegedly involved in the clash. Acting in the orders of Ranchi Dig-Cum-SSP Chandan Sinha, a great contingent of the police forces in the Namkum area was deployed to avoid more disturbances.

After Jora Basti residents demanded the elimination of illegally built Khatals, the police demolished several of them using excavators on Sunday.

Security has been clenched throughout the area, with police staff parked in key places to avoid more shoots.
