‘Very dangerous storms’ predicted when the tornado outbreak wraps the south

A tornado outbreak that began in the Mississippi River Valley is expected to continue on Saturday night.

The storm prediction center issued a rare “high risk” of severe climate for southern parts, including Birmingham, Alabama and Jackson, Mississippi. The designation of “high risk” is generally administered to one or two storm systems per year.

“Today a prolific event is expected in severe climate, with multiple rounds of supercells probably during the afternoon hours. Given the parameter space, the tornadoes associated with these supercells will have the ability to be violent and long duration,” said the National Meteorological Service on Saturday morning.

The storms are being fed by an unusually warm and humid climate ahead of a cold front. Other dynamics are helping to combine for what could be one of the most violent tornado shoots of 2025.

The outbreak began on Friday since the National Meteorological Service had almost two dozen tornado reports in the Mississippi Valley. The equipment will begin to evaluate the damage on Saturday to confirm whether the tornadoes caused the damage.

The road patrol of the state of Missouri reported that a probable tornado hit Rolla, where numerous buildings were destroyed.

Tornadoes were also reported in Carroll, Mississippi, where several buildings were destroyed, and a tractor-clear was revoked.
