Dangerous driver sentenced by shock in A483 near Welshpool

Kristiyan Dimitrov Nikolov, 28, had been smoking cannabis before being at the wheel of a black Audi A3, who had no license or insured to drive, before advancing and colliding with the A483 near Pool Quay.

One of the victims said that the way of driving “reckless, dangerous, selfish” of the Bulgarian citizen left a significant impact, adding that “he was lucky to be able to get away after the catastrophic accident that still chases me daily.”

After listening to the victim’s impact statements, Nikolov was rebuked by the president of the magistrates for saying “my life was terrible, not just his.”

Rebecca Klug, chair, replied: “This happened due to its dangerous driving, not his. They were on the right side of the road.

“He performed a very dangerous maneuver, deliberately ignored the rules of the road and his contempt for dangers and risks to others, in addition to driving while he is affected by drugs.”

Nikolov, previously for Oswestry but now lived and worked in Newtown, was sentenced to 52 weeks in prison that was suspended for 18 months after declaring himself guilty of four crimes.

The Welshpool magistrates court was told that the impatient Nikolov was traveling through a 50 mph area to Welshpool around 9.30 pm on September 24 of last year when he surpassed a Renault Scenic in double white lines. Traveling in a hidden sauce in the opposite direction was a BMW.

Matthew Peate suffered brain trauma, PTSD and syndrome after conversion after the Audi collided with his BMW. He told the court that Nikolov assumed “unforgivable risks” to have “zero respect for my life or other road users.”

Renault Scenic, Josephine Howells, had cuts and bruises after hitting a field. Since then, it has been “very anxious and terrified”, and added that it is “lucky to be alive” and that the shock “will stay with me for life.”

Nikolov was arrested and taken to the police station, where a blood test revealed that it was 3.3 micrograms of metabolite of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol metabolite, which was more than the legal limit of two.

During the interrogation, Nikolov said he was a safe driver and told officers that he can “drive very quickly to be honest and drive like a rally car.”

He told the Police that he went to overcome a slow car, but he did not realize that there was a dip along the way.

The 28 -year -old confirmed that he had no insurance at that time and only pays him when he needed it. UK resident since 2015, he was driving with a Bulgarian license, but had ignored requests to obtain a British license.

Nikolov, who represented himself, had a Bulgarian interpreter to translate his mitigation into the court on Tuesday (March 11).

“All I can say is that I feel it and that it will not happen again,” he said.

Nikolov told the magistrates that going to prison would result in that he could not see his children and lose his job as car washer.

The magistrates suspended their sentence and decided to disqualify Nikolov, from Severn Square, Newtown, to drive for three years. You must approve an extended handling test before you can receive a valid license from the United Kingdom.

“You’re doing me a favor,” he replied.

Nikolov must also complete 25 days of rehabilitation requirement as part of its suspended prayer order.

The magistrates decided not to grant the compensation of the victims.
