A personal assistant for an elderly couple from the Big Apple took them out of almost $ 10 million during a blatant seven -year fraud fraud, using cash in exclusive fashion accessories, federal prosecutors said.

Catalina Corona, 61, who appeared in the Federal Court in Brooklyn with a black cardigan and a Vuitton Louis clutch of $ 1,500, was prosecuted for electronic fraud, bank fraud and identity robbery charges for the alleged lucrative scheme that prosecutors said from 2017 to last year.

Most of the transactions were in Queens and Long Island, the federals said.

“The defendant’s greed did not know limits, since he stole millions of elderly victims, using the deception to systematically steal the money of the victims and violate the confidence they put in it,” said US prosecutor John Durham in a statement.

“My office is committed to protecting the elderly from fraudulent schemes and ending the abuse of elders.”

According to federal prosecutors, Catalina began working for the unidentified elderly couple in January 2017, and soon stole the checks that were made for “cash.”

The scheme came so far that Catalina even called the bank that claimed to be one of the victims in 2019 and 2023 to obtain information about the couple’s bank accounts, said the US prosecutor.

He allegedly used the money to pay his credit card bills, for air trips and to shower with an expensive merchandise of Cartier, Gucci, and more than $ 1 million in articles by Louis Vuitton alone.

The scam finally unraveled on April 3, 2024, more than a $ 1,500 check, when Catalina supposedly called the bank for the last time, and raised enough suspicions that a bank representative called the victim later that day.

It was then that the old victim denied having wrote the check or having made cash checks, and learned that there had been “several questionable checks made in cash,” said the accusation.

A Federal Grande accused her of charges earlier this month and was prosecuted on Thursday.

Catalina faces up to 30 years in prison if she is convicted.

She declined to comment when she left the court, while her lawyer, John Fink, told reporters that “there is bulky evidence” that he has to review before Catalina’s next appointment in court on April 16.
