Police, vigilant group shock in taraba for dispute of unpaid meals

According to reports, the staff of the Nigeria vigilant group, VGN, the State of Taraba’s state, and Nigeria police force officers faced Owoniyi Motor Park, Roadblock, Jalingo, today around 11 in the afternoon.

Speaking to journalists in the state, Muniru Bello Abubakar, the state operations commander of VGN, said that the VGN has an operational office around the motor park, with its men parked there to intervene in problems when necessary and restore normality.

“In this account, a lady who sells food reported to the VGN office in the park that a man ate her food and refused to pay.

“Then, the lady was asked to call the man in question so that the problem could be approached calmly instead of causing public shame. Later, the lady reported that the man insulted her. A vigilant staff decided to intervene, but when he approached the man, the man grabbed his necklace and threw it, ”said Abubakar.

He added that the man then mobilized his friends in an attempt to burn the VGN office in the park. In response, the vigilant staff called the State Commander to explain the situation and was advised not to react in a way that intensify the matter beyond control.

However, the VNG could highlight the man who was instigating the tension, stopped him and took him to his office. Shortly after, Nigeria police officers arrived at the scene. Upon listening to what had happened, the police arrested a member of the vigilant group and put it in his truck, stating that he would only be released if the man arrested (the offender) was released, ”said Abubakar.

According to the reports, the situation became dramatic since both groups of application of the law, which share the same mission, faced the offender.

“While he was still in dispute, the Chief of Police Operations ordered him to release the detainee of vigilantes. However, when they left the scene in their truck, the police shot two bullets, one of which grazed a vigilant personnel on his right foot, ”he added.

Meanwhile, it was said that the man who refused to pay for his food had been delivered to the Police at the time of presenting this report.

Expressing sadness for the incident, the VNG state operations commander said that the organization had informed the matter to the relevant authorities, emphasizing concerns about the participation of the police in such an incident where it was expected to collaborate and solve problems instead of increasing them.
