At least six people were shot dead and eight other wounds seriously injured in a raid incident in Baragoi, Samburu County.

The authorities said up to 700 cattle were stolen in the attack in Samburu North.

The attached commissioner of the County of the area, Samwel Mwangi, said that the teams of several agencies managed to recover about 150 animals from the attackers.

He added that the teams were chasing the attackers to obtain more recoveries.

He said that the armed Raiders broke into a settlement in the Kilepoi area and opened fire before the cattle.

The injured were transferred to the Baragoi County Reference Hospital and Samburu County to receive treatment, while security agencies evaluate the scope of the damage.

The bodies of the victims were taken to the Samburu County Reference Hospital in Maralal, where post mortames will be carried out.

The head of County Health Services, Dr. Josephat Lenguris said the injured were in a stable condition.

“They are injured but they are all stable,” said Lenguris.

Baragoi residents remain in time after the last attack.

Police spokesman Michael Muchiri said they had sent more personnel to the ground to follow the gang after Tuesday’s attack in the morning.

The locals maintained protests on the incident while demanding a rapid government intervention to curb cattle crack and insecurity in the region.

Last month a similar protest was organized in the area with local leaders who demanded actions to address the threat.

The area is the same in which more than 40 police officers were killed by bandits in a siege in 2012.

This caused police operations that saw a reduction of similar crimes there.

Last month, a police officer was shot dead before being stolen from his weapon in an ambush by armed men in the Marti area, Samburu County.

Agent Humphrey Ooba was among a group of police officers who were on Monday, February 10 escorting a group of rowliness of the Maralal GK prisons when they were attacked.

The officers of the Baragoi Police Station had collected eight rowls from the prison and had to take them to the station before the judicial sessions planned on February 11 when they were attacked.
