Supply Committee 2025 Debate, Day 6: Gerald Giam on the compensation of family caregivers

In Parliament on Friday (March 7), deputy Gerald Giam asked to recognize family care as an essential work that deserves adequate compensation and not only relief. He proposed a stepped caretaker payment for those who reduce their working hours or leave employment to take care of a family member, provided they comply with the minimum care threshold. Caregivers should also receive contributions from the central forecasting fund (CPF) to safeguard their long -term financial security, he said.
