What disease is affecting people in Kisii?

The serious situation is evident in villages such as Amarondo, where residents are struggling to take care of their loved ones.

Veronica Nyomenda, an anguished mother, was among many parents who took her children to local hospitals on Saturday, March 1. One of his three children had fallen seriously ill, showing symptoms similar to those reported by hundreds of others in the community.

However, due to financial limitations, he could not ensure treatment and had no choice but to take his sick son back home. For families in similar circumstances, the outbreak has become even more distressing, since they lack resources and knowledge to fight the disease effectively.

In another family, seven household members have been beaten by the disease, including their mother, which has weakened so weak that it now requires the help of neighbors to move.

The situation is not better in a local orphanage, where more than 15 children were transferred to the hospital after showing signs of infection.

Without an official diagnosis still confirmed, the premises have remained in a state of fear and confusion. Many have depended on the antibiotics provided by nearby health centers, but persistent symptoms and continuous suffering indicate that these medications may not effectively treat the root cause of the disease.

From the beginning of the outbreak, an unconfirmed number of patients has been admitted to several hospitals, including Tabaka Mission Hospital, Nyatike Level Two Hospital, Royal Hospital and Prina Hospital. The tension in medical care facilities has increased as more people continue to inform symptoms, creating a sense of urgency for medical intervention.

Since then, health officials have compiled samples for subsequent analysis in the government’s chemist, and the results are expected to provide crucial information about the nature of the outbreak.
