Freitas was accused of first degree murder, which has a prison sentence without probation.
Cabalo said Freitas took her best friend.
“You took my strength,” said Cabalo. “I don’t know how to continue.”

Freitas has 17 previous convictions, including two for abuse. One was in 2011 and the other was in 2012, in which he was sentenced to 181 days in jail.
He was arrested in October for abuse of serious crimes for allegedly suffocating Sturgeon in front of his 13 -year -old daughter. It was released two months later after publishing a bail of $ 5,000.
Cabalo is asking for harder sanctions for the repeat offenders of domestic abusers.
“They need to fix these laws in books so that we don’t have to continue losing our children,” he said.
Cabalo said that the justice system failed and destroyed his family because Freitas should never have been released.
“I can’t believe that this guy was free to come and kill my daughter,” he said.
Cabalo said it is too late for his daughter, who dreamed of owning his own business and leaves four children, but he hopes that this will never happen again.
