Addie Siegen assumes the role of team leader to boost the strong start of Mitchell Girls – Mitchell Republic

Mitchell – Addie Sienen wants to be a leader for Mitchell High School’s female basketball team.

Its ultimate goal is to create a fun environment for girls to be part and try to be the best teammate that can be, but pushing the team towards the victories, since they all want to win.

“I try to push people as strong as I can and try to have a positive attitude,” Siegen said. “It affects everyone else on the floor, so I’m always trying to be the best teammate they can have.”

He has also tried for the new territory to start the season.

As part of the AA class No. 4 he classified the beginning of Mitchell’s 9-2, they always lead the team in annotations such as Junior, averaging 14.9 points per game. Wayne State College’s commitment (Neb.) Also leads the team leader in robberies (31) and is the second in the kernels with 4.5 rebounds per game and third with 1.7 assists per game.

Kernel’s chief coach, Dave Brooks, made it clear to Siempre that she did not expect her to replicate production in the team last year, knowing that others would have to get involved. Although she is routinely at the top of the score leaves, philosophy remained the same.

“We do not exert any undue pressure on it and the other girls who can direct the offensive,” Brooks said. “When you are open, we shoot and see if we can do something against someone with our offensive and our skill players.”

Much of the growth of this season has been reduced to developing confidence among Siegen, its experienced senior teammates Carsyn Weich, Lauren Van Overschelde and Kenzie Peterson, along with newer players at the university level such as Londyn Hajak, Matteah Graves and Cece Morgan .

As the nuclei have used a deeper rotation to keep the players fresh, Siemprese has adjusted to allow the plays to develop naturally.

“It is trusting my teammates and also only trusting myself that I don’t need to force shots,” Siegeen said. “I need to leave them and the game occurs to me and try to stay positive when things are also not going in my way.”

As a selection of honorary mention throughout the class AA last season as a second year student, they always averaged 12.3 points per game, driven by a 33.6% shooting percentage of the 3 -point line.

This year, Sienen has continued to establish itself as a perimeter shooter, which leads to the team shooting 38.8% behind the arch during the first 11 games. In five of those games, Sienen fired 50% or better from long reach, including an performance of 5 of 8 in the January 17 victory over Brookings, when Mitchell drained 14 triples as a team.

However, without the presence in the position that Sawyer Stoebner and Allison Meyerink brought the team a year ago, Siegen’s approach during the summer in their Aau basketball team was working more inside and being the person who drove the ball to the lane to the lane .

“Once you are labeled as a 3 -point shooter, they will play hard on the outside,” Brooks said. “You have to be able to make a shot, falsify and enter to shoot the pull up sweater or simply reach the edge. That part of the game, especially getting to the hole, continues to evolve. ”

When you are always entered, it has been received with double equipment or triple teams by opposite players, which have labeled it as Mitchell’s best annotation option when it is on the floor. Pressure management while also having the awareness of finding a teammate outside shows its evolution as a general player for the nuclei.

“This year, more people have focused on me,” said Sienen. “Just make sure that the defensive pressure that other equipment has presented to me does not affect how I shoot and how I play. … knowing where Londyn, Carsyn and Lauren are and they talk about the perimeter make me aware that they are ready to shoot instead of saying a bad shot. “

The work ethics of Siegesen outside the days of the game is not lost in the rest of the team, and its objectives of making Mitchell Girls Basketball still finding his place as leader in the nuclei.

“Addie is an incredible player and an incredible person,” said Weich. “She enters into practice every day and every game and gives her everything. She is always edifying and we needed someone to put that paper or a similar one, and has handled it very well. “

“She is a competitor,” Brooks added, “and I think the other girls are in the same way. They refuse to lose and play hard until the end. They all lead with the example and we hope as coaches so that these children continue doing that doing that ”

As the nuclei continue to sail in the posterior half of the regular season, facing the best teams in the AA class, Siegen seeks to continue playing as a unit and always look for the opening on the floor, which leads to a Open look at the basket. Sienen said that the nuclei will continue to play better when everyone gets involved in the offensive.

It was an early adjustment for always when the defenses prioritized to avoid scoring and led Mitchell to victory at the beginning of the year. Now, it is just a footnote within the general objective of winning games with a collective effort of all the nuclei, which face Sioux Falls Lincoln at 5:30 pm on Friday, January 31 in Sioux Falls. Their relaxed behavior is one that expects everyone to have during the 32 minutes.

“As the season progresses, I haven’t let it affect me so much and relax while playing,” Siegese said. “We must all be relaxed and not try to force many things and let the other team affect the way we play.”
