Man jailed after crashing stolen car into police motorcyclist in collision caught on camera | UK News

Footage has been released of a driver ramming a police motorcyclist with a stolen car in Southampton.

It comes as Marvin Geddes, 33, was jailed on Friday for 48 months in Southampton Crown Court after pleading guilty to attempting to cause actual bodily harm, dangerous driving and driving without a license and driving without insurance.

Hampshire officers were attempting to arrest the 33-year-old man after they spotted his Honda Civic with suspected cloned number plates in Wimpson Lane, Southampton, at around 9.20pm on 2 July 2024.

A short chase ensued in which Geddes drove the vehicle in an extremely dangerous manner, including going the wrong way on a roundabout, driving on the wrong side of the road and running a red light, the court was told.

Police dashcam footage, released by Hampshire Police, showed Geddes colliding with motorcyclist PC Derek Hearn at high speed. The court heard Geddes fled before being involved in a collision with a Peugeot 108 shortly afterwards.

Geddes, from Southampton, abandoned his Honda, which was later confirmed to have been stolen from an address in the city in March 2023, and fled the scene on foot.

PC Hearn said: “I feel lucky not to have lost a limb or even a life in this incident.

“As a police officer, I pride myself on doing my job to the best of my ability to safeguard the public. I do not accept my life being put in danger because of that.”

Superintendent Mark Lewis said: “I was absolutely shocked when I saw the footage of this incident. No police officer should have to deal with such extreme violence towards them.”

“The fact that PC Hearn and the driver of the Peugeot were not seriously injured is extremely fortunate, considering the serious level of complete indifference shown to them by Geddes.”
