KPK announced Hasto’s determination on Tuesday afternoon, December 24, 2024. Hasto was named a suspect in a bribery case involving PDIP politician Harun Masiku against KPU Commissioner for the period 2017-2022, Wahyu Setiawan.

After being named a suspect, Hasto was scheduled to be questioned on Monday. However, the exam was canceled because Hasto argued that he already had another agenda.

Previously, KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto said that Hasto played a vital role in the bribery case. Setyo conveyed this when announcing the determination of Hasto as a suspect.

He is even suspected of helping Harun Masiku to escape. Harun is a PDIP cadre who is also a suspect in this case. Until now, Harun remains at large.

Harun Masiku’s bribery case against Wahyu Setiawan began with the KPK’s undercover operation against Wahyu and several PDIP cadres on January 8, 2020. Wahyu is suspected of accepting bribes to facilitate the process of replacing DPR members for the PDIP period 2019-2024. in Electoral District 1 of South Sumatra.

The PAW process began when the PDIP legislative candidate for South Sumatra Electoral District I, Nazarudin Kiemas, died three weeks before voting in the 2019 elections. Nazarudin was the PDIP legislative candidate with the most votes in the electoral district in the 2019 elections. In accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Law, the replacement of a deceased candidate or for other reasons is the legislative candidate with the highest number of votes in the corresponding electoral district, i.e. Riezky Aprilia.

However, the PDIP asked the KPU to replace him with the party’s chosen candidate, Harun Masiku. Harun was the fifth winner of the vote in South Sumatra Electoral District 1 in the 2019 election. To smooth things over, the PDIP put pressure on the then KPU Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan.

He PDIPPAW’s application failed on January 7, 2020. But the alleged bribe money to facilitate PAW’s process was given to Wahyu Setiawan. After confirming the flow of money, the KPK arrested Wahyu and PDIP cadre Saeful Bahri.
