Worcester man charged in death of man whose body was found in Hubbardston Woods on Saturday

A Worcester man allegedly beat a former employee to death with a metal baseball bat in a wooded area in Hubbardston on Saturday, according to Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.’s office and court records.

Ryan A. Wilcox, 32, is scheduled to be arraigned in Worcester District Court on Monday on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, armed assault with intent to kill and assault with a weapon dangerous, prosecutors said.

Mitchell Burke’s body was discovered about 10 a.m. Saturday in a driveway near Brigham Street in Hubbardston, prosecutors said. Burke, 32, of Worcester, had suffered serious head injuries, according to court records.

Burke previously worked for Wilcox and the two men met on New Year’s Eve, according to court records. During an interview with state police on Sunday, Wilcox admitted hitting him with a baseball bat several times, which led to his arrest, according to court records.

It was not immediately known what sparked the violence. The investigation is ongoing, prosecutors said.

This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
