Veteran Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe is a little richer after profiting from a bet with a teammate on who would score his first goal first.
The Toronto Maple Leafs emerged victorious once again last night, improving their record to an impressive 25-13-2, which is good for first place in the Atlantic Division. They defeated their rivals, the Boston Bruins, 6-4, thanks to the heroics of Matthew Knies, who scored a hat trick.
Another player who stood out was Jake McCabe, who scored the first goal of the game. Goals by Maple Leafs defensemen are a rarity this seasonso it was especially satisfying for McCabe to score one.
According to Evan Doerfler in X, McCabe was delighted with the goal:
“It’s good to get the monkey off your back and get rid of the goose egg next to the G.”
