Woman accused of murdering her young daughter and blames ‘voices’ in her head: police

A Chicago mother allegedly told police that “voices” in her head led her to murder her young daughter.

Marisol Vázquez, 37, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter Lucía on December 20 around 8:30 a.m. local time, according to NBC 5, CBS News and The Chicago Tribune.

According to a police report obtained by CBS News, Vázquez was initially found naked on a bed with Lucía behind her.

When paramedics attempted to perform life-saving measures on the girl, who was not breathing, water came out of her mouth, according to the report. Police also found water and clothing in a bathtub.

He Tribute reported that Lucia was later pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital. The media detailed that police identified the girl as 1 year old, but prosecutors later said she was 21 months old.

PEOPLE contacted the Chicago Police Department and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office but did not receive a response on Sunday, January 5.

According to the arrest report, according to CBS News, Vazquez made “incoherent statements about being trapped by electronic devices and that they had all been raped” when she was questioned by detectives.

Vázquez was eventually taken to Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital for a mental health evaluation, and officers arrested her there later on Thursday, January 2, CBS News reported.

Vázquez then allegedly confessed to suffocating Lucía with a sheet. He also allegedly told detectives that “the voices were in his head and that the voices were telling him that he needed to commit suicide with his daughter so the devil wouldn’t eat her,” the outlet added.

Vazquez also told officials that he tried to drown but couldn’t, so he then tried to cut himself, according to CBS News.

The woman later appeared in court on Saturday, January 4, when prosecutors said she confessed to the murder to her sister and told her not to call the police, according to documents obtained by police. Grandstand.

Vazquez is currently being held in the Cook County Jail. He is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, January 7. It is unclear whether he has legal representation to comment on his behalf.
