Hit-and-run in Surrey leaves 2 seriously injured

The driver of a Maserati fled the scene of a high-speed crash in Surrey that sent two people to the hospital, one of them in critical condition Saturday night, according to authorities.

First responders arrived at the scene on 75th Avenue near 124th Street around 10:15 p.m., the Surrey Police Service said, and found a man trapped between two parked vehicles and another who had been sent flying after being hit. .

Investigators report they found five vehicles hit by the Maserati in total, including parked and moving vehicles.

“Obviously, for the trapped pedestrian, time was of the essence,” said Surrey Police spokesman Ian MacDonald.

The 29-year-old man is in critical but stable condition in hospital, and McDonald says “if it weren’t for the quick work of Surrey Fire Service and BC Ambulance, we could be looking at a death.” “The individual, a 28-year-old man, who I mentioned was thrown, suffered serious injuries but is also stable in hospital.”

The driver of the Maserati “immediately” fled the scene, police said.

“We can often determine very quickly who the registered owner of a vehicle is. “Almost as quickly we can determine who would likely have possession of the vehicle at any given time,” MacDonald explained.

“What becomes more challenging is putting the driver behind the wheel and that is where forensics, witnesses and our investigation will have to continue, because obviously when an occupant or occupants flee, they do so to try to avoid that responsibility. “It is It is our job to return that responsibility to them.
