Utah man arrested after alleged rape, kidnapping and crash into house

SALT LAKE COUNTY – A Utah man now faces a list of charges including aggravated kidnapping, rape, child abuse and causing a collision that resulted in injuries and property damage. The Salt Lake County District Attorney filed charges against David Anthony Mora on Monday.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, on December 19, Mora went to the house of his ex-girlfriend, named in the statement as “JG.” Prosecutors say Mora told his ex-girlfriend that he was going to kill her.

The next day, the victim went to work and the suspect picked her up after her shift. The suspect allegedly drove the victim home and assaulted her along the way. When they got home, the suspect allegedly forced JG to have sex with him. During the rape, the victim was strangled and lost consciousness. JG’s son, identified by prosecutors as “PG,” was also present during the incident.

On December 21, JG returned to work before leaving early with the suspect. Prosecutors say the defendant and JG got into an argument at their home during which the suspect assaulted three-year-old PG.

JG would confront the defendant, which led to a physical fight in which Mora allegedly elbowed the victim and knocked out his front teeth. Mora also, according to prosecutors, held a steak knife to the victim’s throat and threatened to kill her.

The victims left the house and got into JG’s car. There the accused offered to take them to a friend’s house. As the suspect walked around the vehicle, the victim closed the doors to prevent the suspect from entering.

JG tried to drive away but the defendant jumped on the hood of the car and forced him to stop. Mora then forced his way into the car and assaulted JG. He then began driving at high speed, swerving and eventually crashed into the front of a house.

Mora got out of the car, grabbed the three-year-old boy and ran from the scene. Mora finally dropped the child before continuing to escape.

Officers were eventually able to take him into custody.

“Violence between intimate partners is never the answer. For those who are in domestic violence relationships, I urge you to seek help. We have services in our community, like the YWCA Family Justice Center or South Valley Services, that are willing and ready to help you get out of dangerous relationships,” said Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill.
