Gabriel Martinelli mocks his Arsenal teammate, Riccardo Calafiori, in a new message

Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli took to social media to mock teammate Riccardo Calafiori after their 3-1 Premier League win over Brentford on Wednesday (January 1).

Both Martinelli, 23, and Calafiori, 22, started for Mikel Arteta’s side and earned a much-needed win to move Arsenal into second place, six points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Bryan Mbuemo opened the scoring for the hosts against the run of play in the 13th minute, turning the tables on Calafiori before scoring at the near post.

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus continued his excellent form and scored the equalizer 13 minutes later to send both deliveries into the break on equal terms.

Arteta’s side made a lightning start to the second half, taking the lead through Mikel Merino in the 50th minute before Martinelli secured all three points just three minutes later.

Martinelli has two goals in his last three games after a shaky start to the season, starting 20 of his 25 games in all competitions, scoring six goals and providing two assists in his 1,705 minutes of action.

Calafiori has seen multiple injury problems somewhat hamper his progress at the club, missing 11 games for club and country since joining in the summer transfer window.

However, the defender has impressed when he has played, starting 11 of his 15 games in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing one assist in his 1,705 minutes of action.

Calafiori took instagram to celebrate the victory with an image of him and Martinelli together, saying: “Starting 2025 with 3 points” to which his teammate responded, “My boy Tarzan.”

Arsenal have a series of tough fixtures throughout January, including games against Newcastle, Man United and arch-rivals Tottenham.

Arteta’s side will face out-of-form Brighton in their second match of 2025 on Saturday (January 4) as they look to gain further ground on Liverpool.
