‘Sorry to fans and BCCI…’ Mohammed Shami posts emotional message after missing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 squad

Mohammed Shami has been out of action since last year’s World Cup final.

india Road to ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final hit after home test series loss against New Zealand.

Fans and critics alike expected the Indian team to win all five test matches at home against Bangladesh (two games) and New Zealand (three games) before leaving for Australia for the final showdown.

However, after losing to the Kiwis in the first two Tests of the series, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has become even more interesting as South Africa and New Zealand now return to the WTC final contest.

Also, India have been hurt by the absence of senior pacer Mohammed Shami. Shami, who has been sidelined since the 2023 World Cup final due to an ankle injury, has been working hard to return to fitness.

However, he was not part of the 18-man squad announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the tour of Australia, although a mid-series return for Shami has not yet been ruled out. In fact, this was hinted at in Shami’s latest Instagram post.

After missing out on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy squad, Shami took to Instagram to share a message with fans and the BCCI. In a short video, he can be seen doing an intense workout in the gym. Along with the video, Shami posted a heartfelt message, expressing her disappointment and promising to continue her efforts to return soon.

“Try hard and improve my bowling fitness day by day,” Shami wrote. “We will continue to work hard to prepare for the match and play domestic red-ball cricket. “I am sorry to all the cricket fans and also to the BCCI, but very soon I will be ready to play red ball cricket, I love you all.” Mohammed Shami wrote on Instagram.

Shami’s absence has opened opportunities for the likes of Harshit Rana, Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna. Indian fast bowlers have been instrumental in India’s last two Test series wins in Australia. With the experience of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj already at their disposal, India will be hoping for a good bowling performance from their third pacer.
