‘Get Out and Vote’ event encourages early voting in Dougherty County

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) – On Saturday, October 26, hundreds of South Georgians attended the “Get Out and Vote” event.

Organizations such as “Black Voters Matter” and “Communities United for Justice” organized this event to encourage early voting.

“Everyone’s votes matter. Generation Z, we want you to vote. Black men, we want you to vote. We want all our women to vote. We want you to vote because this time your voice will be heard,” said one Albany resident.

The event took place outside the SandTrap Club & Lounge. A caravan of cars gave the starting signal as they moved through the city, horns blaring. Volunteers of all ages were seen on every corner holding signs encouraging drivers to vote and vote early.

“The last time I voted, I wasn’t as informed as I should have been. Now I know more about politics. I know the difference between Democrats and Republicans. I know more about what could change and what is at stake for us. I feel a little more empowered because I’m here being a part of the change, helping people grow and understand the importance of voting,” said Zipporah Graham, a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority.

Dougherty County residents can vote early at the Civic Center Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until November 1. Sunday, October 27, polls are open from 1 to 5 p.m.

“Come out! Come to the SandTrap! Have fun. We get free food. We have people who want to love you. Come out and help us show our Albany community and surrounding areas how we do it,” said Pamala Williams, CEO of QC Performing Arts Inc.
