Thala for a reason: MS Dhoni feels fans turned viral meme in his favor

India and CSK legend MS Dhoni feels that his fans have turned the viral meme ‘Thala for a reason’ in his favour. The trend took off around December 2023, sparked by funny jokes from fans highlighting MS Dhoni’s strong association with the number seven.

Known for sporting the number seven on his jersey, Dhoni was also born on the 7th of the month, further fueling the excitement. This connection quickly went viral, flooding the internet with memes and keeping the trend alive to this day. Even prominent figures and IPL franchises joined in, sharing their own views and contributing to the wave of “Thala for a reason” posts on social media.

Speaking at an event organized by RIGI, Dhoni said he was aware of the meme but did not know the reason behind it. The CSK legend said that his brilliant fans turned things in their favor with the meme. Dhoni feels that his fans often come to his defense when someone misbehaves with him.

Dhoni said that for now his fans allow him to keep quiet and enjoy his life and cricket.

“I know. But I don’t know the reason behind it. I don’t know if it’s funny, if it’s supposed to be teasing me, if it’s a joke, if it’s a meme. I think my fans have become something that’s in my favor.” “I have brilliant fans. I don’t need to open my mouth or say anything. If they feel that someone has been unpleasant to me, they take care of it in my life and try to play good cricket and that’s what it is for me,” Dhoni said.

This is not the first time Dhoni has acknowledged the meme.as he also did a few months ago. Dhoni, at the same event, would more or less confirm his participation in IPL 2025 season as he said he wants to enjoy the last few years he has left in the game.
