M40 driver attacked near Beaconsfield in fake police car robbery

A motorist suffered a broken jaw and eye socket during a robbery in which his vehicle was stopped by a fake police car following a collision on the motorway.

The victim was attacked by a group of men after being ordered to stop at a layby by a car with blue lights following a collision with another car on the southbound M40 between High Wycombe and Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire.

After exiting at junction two and parking at a layby on the A355 near the Pyebush roundabout, the man, aged in his 30s, was taken from his car and his phone, wallet and keys were stolen.

“Impersonating a police officer is an offense we will not tolerate,” said PC Mollie Dugmore of Thames Valley Police.

“We are asking for information following this incident.”

The victim suffered serious bodily injuries in the assault and was taken to the hospital, but has since been released.

Police have just released details of the attack, which occurred around 21:15 BST last Sunday.

A force spokesman said that after the collision on the motorway, which resulted in “minor damage”, the man believed he was being stopped by a police vehicle, but the car was not thought to have any other markings.

The attackers are believed to have been traveling in a red Nissan and a dark-coloured Volvo.

Police are urging anyone with images of the M40 or surrounding areas from around 9.10pm to contact them.
