Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under the “staff” byline. Often the byline “personal” is used when rewriting basic news summaries that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a highway closure, and that require little or no information. Sometimes this signature is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from multiple sources. If external sources are used, it is noted in the story.
