During his judgment at Chester Crown Court, Burrows admitted to having been a pedophile, but denied the most serious accusations. Of the 105 charges against him, he declared himself guilty of 43. The court finally considered him guilty of 54 more crimes, which brought the total count of convictions to 97. The charges included indecent assault, indecency with a child and a crime now classified as a violation.
Prosecutor Mark Connor KC said Burrows used their trust positions to exploit children for their own satisfaction. The Inspector Detective Eleanor Atkinson described him as a “prolific sexual offender” who did not show remorse.
In an email discovered, Burrows wrote that he had spent the last 30 years “living in paradise” in Thailand while his victims suffered silently.
Many of Burrows’ victims never saw justice, since four have died since then. Some survivors reported abuse at that time, but their claims were dismissed, which allowed Burrows to continue their crimes.
Burrows will be sentenced on April 7. Prosecutors expect their conviction to bring a certain closing measure to their victims.
