Near Macks Creek, Mo. (Ky3) – Rural Firefighters of Camden County are preparing again while Missouri faces another round of dangerous fire conditions.
Chief Mike Hufferd with Southwest Camden County Fire said that Friday was chaotic since firefighters throughout Ozarks took care of a spark of scattered flames in several rural areas. Some fires even took equipment like this water hose. Hufferd says there were so many fires that his department had to have others to help.
“We call mutual aid companies from everywhere. We had one that is just west here. That practically saved a whole community. “
He says that after fighting multiple fires throughout the state, exhausted firefighters are preparing for another round of dangerous conditions. Fire officials say that strong winds and dry air fed more than 20 fires near the Mark Twain National Forest, including a forest fire of almost 200 acres in Barry County.
“We started to have reasons,” said the Hufferd boss.
The Hufferd boss says that the teams have been working without stopping, and with a red flag warning in place, the risk cannot be relieved.
“You have to understand, we are only a dozen people in this department, and we cover 152 square miles,” said the Hufferd boss.
