The awards season has begun and honors are arriving for St. Edmond’s children.

A gaels trio was appointed for the teams of the Central Conference of the North, the League announced recently.

Juniors Hunter Horn, Jakob Koopman and Jack Mcelroy were named, with Horn as a unanimous team of the first team. Koopman was placed in the second team, while Mcelroy won the state of the third team.

Elliot Carlson of Humboldt and Thomas Meyer de Clear Lake were also unanimous options for the first team with Ben Helmers from Algona, Meyer’s teammate, Titan Schmitt and Brady Harr from Hampton-Dumont/Cal completing the team.

Horn, Koopman and Mcelroy helped the Gaels to a second place in the classification of the League with Humboldt. St. Edmond advanced to the semifinals of the state -class Tournament Class 1a.

“It is a rather special honor, called All-Conference in this league,” Sehs chief coach Adolph Kochendorfer, he said. “We are the smallest school that plays in the NCC, facing some large and talented teams for every night.

“Hunter, Jakob and Jack had exceptional seasons. It was great to see them recognized. “

Clear Lake, who was undefeated during the regular season and was 14-0 in the NCC, ended as a state runner-up 3a. The Gaels and the Wildcats were 11-3 in the League, dividing their seasonal series.

Horn averaged a 26.2 points leader per game against the league competition, shooting 61 percent from the field and 75 percent in the free throw line. He also averaged 9.1 rebounds per game while added 20 assists, 19 robberies and 11 blocked shots.

Together with the honor of the League, Horn also turned the replacement team of the Iowa basketball coaches association.

Koopman scored 144 points in 66 percent shots from the field in the League games, adding 102 rebounds with 43 assists, 28 robberies and seven blocked shots. I was in the Top-12 in annotations, rebounds, assists, robberies and blocks.

Mcelroy produced 98 assists with 71 rebounds, 67 points and 24 robberies in the NCC game. His average assistance of seven per game led all the players of the conference.

The NCC selections of the second team included Coen Matson and Chaz Lane de Clarion-Goldfield/Dows. Matson Humboldt teammate, Mason Van Pelt and Nathan Manske from Algona were in the third team.
