Cabas Hyderab Boicott Airport Trips on the ‘unfair’ adding rates | Details here

Taxi drivers in Hyderabad have launched a boycott of airport trips provided by the aggregator applications, citing low rates and high commissions as key concerns. The union has asked the government to intervene and enforce fair price policies on all platforms.

The taxi drivers under the banangana concert banner and the Union of Platform Workers (TGPWU) have started the trip of the trips provided by the aggregator to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, protesting against what they describe as unjustly low rates offered by the applications -based taxis companies. The founding president of TGPWU, Shaik Salauddin, said the campaign, which began two days ago, is gaining impulse and is observed on a large scale.

‘Beacted earnings, waiting time for a long time’

According to the union, aggregating platforms charge as little as ₹ 300 – ₹ 400 for a city trip to the airport, while deducting a 30% commission of drivers’ profits. Salauddin said that the Telangana government, in 2022, had set the taxis prepaid taxis ₹ 21 per kilometer for trips from and to the airport. “There is a gap of ₹ 300- ₹ 400 between the prepaid taxi rates and what the aggregators charge for the same distance,” he said, adding that this price disparity has severely impacted the income of the taxi drivers. By aggravating the problem, drivers often have to wait three to four hours at the airport to get a return trip, further reducing the amount of trips they can complete in one day.

Rate regulation demand

The union has repeatedly appealed to the government and the transport authorities to implement uniform price standards on all platforms. However, no concrete steps have been taken so far, Salauddin claimed. He urged the state government to immediately intervene and regulate the price policies of aggregate companies to ensure fair compensation for drivers.
