Stolen vehicle found submerged 15 feet in Ross Barnett Reservoir

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) – A suspected stolen vehicle was found submerged in the Ross Barnett Reservoir.

According to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, investigators responded to the scene near a boat ramp on Lake Harbor Road around 1 p.m. Thursday after the Reservoir Police Department discovered the car.

Reservoir Fire Department divers were able to locate the car, a black 2008 Ford Mustang, about 15 feet underwater and about 50 feet from the road.

Further investigation of the vehicle revealed that Richland Police Department officials had declared it stolen in 2009.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Reservoir Police Department and the Richland Police Department in the investigation.
