New online portal allows Monroe County residents to report dangerous roads and intersections

ROCHESTER, NY — Monroe County just launched a new online portal where residents can report the exact location of what they believe is the most dangerous intersection or stretch of road.

In the past 10 years, more than five blocks north, 15 people walking have been hit by cars on North Clinton Avenue in Upper Falls. Ten people were run over while riding bicycles.

That’s what the Reconnect Rochester accident map shows. Zooming out reveals that, on average, 47 people die on the streets and roads of Monroe County each year. More than 5,000 people are injured.

The new website is where residents can fill in space they think needs changing, whether it’s adding a crosswalk, a sidewalk or slowing down traffic. The portal was started with County Executive Adam Bello and the county’s new Traffic Safety Committee.

“You know our neighborhoods better than anyone, right? People who live in neighborhoods across the county know their neighborhoods best. You know the areas where speeding is a problem. You know where crosswalks are missing and where intersections just feel unsafe,” Bello said.

At the press conference, the death of a 6 year old boy, RJ Grantham, was highlighted. His death inspired a traffic change.

Residents can complete the traffic portal now. through this link. Every three months, the Road Safety Committee will review submissions and accident reports to identify locations that need to be changed.
