One dead and one seriously injured in high-speed head-on collision with SUV

SAN ANTONIO – One man died and another was seriously injured after two pickup trucks collided at high speed.

Tuesday, police responded to a call of a serious accident on Pecan Valley Drive, near the corner of Arrid Drive, near the Southside Lions Senior Center.

When police arrived, they found a collision involving two SUVs, both Dodge Journeys, and took both drivers to the hospital.

The driver of the silver Dodge Journey, a 47-year-old man, was pronounced dead at San Antonio Army Medical Center. The driver of the black SUV, a 31-year-old man, is unconscious in the same hospital.

Investigators believe the black pickup truck was traveling north at a high rate of speed when it crossed the median and collided with the silver pickup truck going in the opposite direction.

Police at the scene said they did not know if alcohol or narcotics were involved in the collision, and also said it was unclear whether the driver of the black SUV would face charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
