Sonko, who had previously provided significant support to Kimani during his mental health issues, expressed disappointment at the public discussions surrounding the young journalist’s recovery.

How Sonko helped Kimani before

His efforts were widely praised and he even coordinated with Kimani’s father during the process.

However, after Kimani’s release from the facility in December 2024, He went on a tirade accusing Obinna of embezzling funds donated by supporters.

Kimani also distanced herself from her father and allegedly told him to stay away. The situation escalated further during a live interview on Obinna TV on January 20, 2025, where Kimani’s father alleged that his son had relapsed.

Reacting to these developments, Sonko emphasized that the ongoing accusations and counter-accusations are detrimental to Kimani’s recovery.

“It is important that Kimani Mbugua’s father recognizes that his son is still in the process of recovery and must be treated very carefully, otherwise Kimani may experience feelings of rejection and abandonment, which could lead to harmful actions. Baba Kimani anafaa kujua bado ni mtoto wake akuwe mzuri ama mbaya bado ni wake,” Sonko said.

Furthermore, Sonko criticized Obinna for hosting the live discussion and urged him to use his platform responsibly.

“Talking about Kimani Mbugua on Obina’s live stream was unnecessary, and I urge my good friend Obinna to use his platform more responsibly,” he said.

The former governor vowed to communicate with both Obinna and Kimani’s father to stop further live discussions or publicly share his condition. Additionally, he promised to ensure that Kimani returns to a rehabilitation center for continued care.

“The mother of Kimani Mbugua and his sister hebu tafadhalini nirengesheeni yeye will take care of his situation na atakuwa sawa,” Sonko assured.
